Seen Around Town in January

Saturday, 10 January 2026

Today we made a transient visit to Patullo Farm Stand at 123 Oak Grove Road.

They have a much more diverse array of offerings than do the typical end-of-driveway stalls.

Like them, Patullo Farm Stand also offers eggs from their own hens, lovely brown eggs.

They have variable hours, different on different days. And quickly sell out of items

such as sourdough bread. We arrived about 10 minutes after their noon opening time.

There were only two loaves on the rack, and the bread was what I really wanted.
I particularly admire the ear of wheat incised on the crust. Wonder if they ever
offer sourdough starter for sale. That would be something special. And welcome.

They do offer 3 hour long baking master class to be held in your home.

Inside the farm stand are two trestle style tables with bottled items,

bagged granola, fresh cookies, and a basket with couple of bunches of dried lavender.

A small farm truck that may look to you like a toy. But I think it is for a gnome. Or a tomten.

Closed on Monday and Tuesday, pre-orders on Wednesday and Thursday

and open for walk-ins on Friday, Saturday, & Sunday from 12 PM to 8 PM.

We went to Marinelli's for lunch today. Their decor is clearly preparing for Valentine's Day with pink hearts here and there, mini pink bouquets on the table. Vito told me that when they had cleared away all the winter holiday decorations the restaurant looked bare. So they added all the decorations for the next holiday to brighten things up, even if the next holiday is not until mid-February. There was one decoration that - as you should expect - attracted my attention. Plants. Gardens. Plant- and / or garden-related. Act like a magnet.

Thus, it was when I noticed this flamboyant red hippeastrum
(or do you perhaps know it as amaryllis) I took a closer look.

It was the leaves that gave it away as artificial. Nicely done.

And - by the way - yes, our lunch was delicious and filling.

Here it is, not even a week into January, the first month of the new year. I've taken down all the seasonal decorations here and there around the house. They've been boxed, moved downstairs to the basement, still waiting to go into their storage tub. Yesterday, when I went to Wal-mart, I saw that they already have Valentine Day items on display. That's February 14th, more than a month away. At least when I drive around town there are still some remnants of the holiday season, along with the remnants of snow.

I especially enjoyed this sporty winter scenic embellishing a barn on Gallmeier Road.

Didn't go up to the barn but it looks like they are nicely painted plywood cutouts.

After running an errand I doubled back to photograph another appealing seasonal display.

I think it is on Palmyra Corner Road. A bicycle with greenery, and some (probably empty) packages.

Something to brighten a passerby's spirits while winter still holds sway and flowers not yet in bloom.
